[ the first message she has received, she startles enough to almost drop what she was holding. but it's magic and thus amazing and the reply(ies) soon follows. ]
[ it takes her a few minutes, but she finally comes into the kitchen. the long purple coat was left aside today. the undershirt is white, the vest black, the sash purple. she's also dirty, another day spent in the greenhouses with her lessons, and she wears a smirk wanting to be a smile as she hides something behind her back.
she brings it out with a flourish: a bunch of flowers, their leaves still attached, which she learned are good when brewed in a tea and are sweet to the taste too. ]
[ she cannot remember the last time she had a peach. the last time she saw one was painted onto a sign in a different land, in a different life. leaving kal with the flowers, she drifts toward the fruit. picking the ripest-looking, she holds it between her hands a moment. rather than peel it or cut it in half, she bites directly into it.
the juice explodes in her mouth. some dribbles down her chin. she catches the rivulets on her fingers and licks her fingers clean. she eats around the pit and thinks herself lucky even when she misjudges and her teeth accidentally hit it. sucking juice off her thumb, she looks up. ]
Those can be brewed into a tea, [ she pipes up, pointing to the flowers. ] Leaves and petals both, but it's the leaves that are supposed to be good for you.
[ The peaches have a sweet aroma that explodes in the room. Clark inhales to enjoy it. ]
Oh?
[ There's a plate with some napkins right next to the bowl of peaches. Clark takes a fresh one from the rack to pluck the leaves and petals off. He separates them on opposite ends of the plate. ]
[ The cups are right there on the rack, and he has to heat up some water first, as well as dry out the leaves and crush them in a sieve. She has time to decide. ]
[ He always liked animals. They were the best part about the farm.
But Clark can't see himself living like that for the rest of his life. He can help people from Smallville, but Superman needs to be in a city. He has to be close to people. ]
Would you like to go riding together sometime?
[ Most people would consider that weird for a man who can fly, but Clark likes walking, and riding bicycles or horses. ]
[ He'd thought about riding it. Now he starts to think about the joy of flying beside it. He can do that here, when he's Kal. Not Clark, trying desperately to stay under the radar.
If people here are going to find out what he can do, he'd rather tell them before they see it. ]
[ but her tone turns up at the end like she isn't quite sure. magical messages and clothes that are cleaned in the night and gods who walk among people. ]
[ Sensible aliens don't fly indoors. Clark moves back a few steps and makes sure she's watching him.
Then, he lifts off the ground slowly and hovers. ]
Ta-dah?
[ He covers his nervousness with a smile. Clark hasn't really been able to take joy in his powers. It's only other people that find them wonderful or terrifying. ]
[ zokla's mouth drops open, her expression torn between surprise and elation. peach and knife forgotten, she slides off her seat. her eyes flick up looking for whatever it is keeping him aloft. bending down, she waves a hand under his feet as if she might encounter some support she cannot see. nothing but air above and below. ]
You never said!
[ because clearly this is information he should have opened with. she smacks him on the knee for good measure for keeping it a secret. her knuckles protest the action. ]
[ He lands on the ground just in case she decides to try that again. Clark shrugs helplessly even as he smiles at her. He's always had a hard time saying. ]

no subject
They're safe to eat.
no subject
Is that where you are?
no subject

[ He's been feeling hungry and tired for the first time here in Oska. ]

Trade. For the peaches.

He can smell the flowers too, and was going to ask until she produced them. He smiles delightedly and bends down to inhale their scent. ]
Thank you. The peaches are over there, I didn't know if you wanted the skins removed. I took out a knife.

Have you been back to the stables?

[ There's so many books on everything he could possibly want to know.
(And nothing on Krypton. Yet.) ]
What about you?
[ She might have her eye on that pegasus. He grins at her as he goes to put on the kettle. ]

A couple of times. If I had to pick, I'd sooner work there.
[ zo spears a slice of peach on the tip of the knife and pops it in her mouth. ]
I don't mind getting dirty. Or the animals.
[ subtlety thy name is…half a dozen of them, actually, and currently the high valyrian word for "wolf." ]

I can fly too.

I'm Kryptonian. We can all do it.

Prove it.
